Bought this as my first telescope and I am completely satisfied with it! It is a little heavy and hard to move from place to place, so probably not a good idea for a child/teen, definitely needs strength of strong adult to move. I bought it at .com and it is missing eyepiece kit; tried contacting them by email twice and haven't received response after more than a month...so beware before buying online. I bought the Celestron AstroMaster 130eq as an upgrade. I am very happy with the choice I made. The lenses that come with it are good quality. Using the 20mm lens is like seeing the night sky on a big screen TV. The scope was easy to set up for use and I was able to find Saturn quickly on the first night. Because I'm in Central California, the view was a little degraded from smoke in our atmosphere, but the rings were obvious as was the space between them and the planet. I suggest using the join filter in the accessory kit when viewing the moon at any stage. I find two cons: The finder scope is useless and the tripod is a bit wobbly. The scope shakes for a few seconds after focusing. Otherwise, I highly recommend this telescope. great beginner's scope 4 Feb 23
Almost perfect beginnner's scope. Easy setup, optics good. You need to read up on equatorial mounts and polar aligning to use the fine adjustment knobs properly. Learning the mount was the toughest part of learning to use this scope for me. But once done, you will know why this mount is preferred over the alt-azt mount like found on camera tripods. Jupiter was nice, could just see bands on planet. Saturn was a bit small. Orion nebula was very nice. Mars is tiny when not at opposition, like now. If you are interested in astrophotography, you cannot use this scope and your DSLR using "prime focus", you must use an eyepiece extension adapter (a tube with the eyepiece in it while allowing you to attach to the DSLR) to get into focus. Webcam attached to focuser does work, but you will probably need a 2 or 3x barlow lens.Positives: great package for beginner like me, including the Powerseeker accessory kit which includes 15mm and 9mm kellner eyepieces and filters, as well as case for these eyepieces. Portable, can be carried in duffel bag (mount separately) for your next trip to a dark sky. Metal OTA (optical tube assembly), german equatorial mount, camera piggyback ready, Negatives: no barlow lens, 20mm erecting eyepiece has small field of view, finderscope ("StarPointer") is worst part of this package (could not get it aligned with main scope, and wound up changing finderscope b/c of this. In fact, first thing you should do is replace this finderscope), all eyepieces are kellners instead of the industry standard Plossls, but they are still OK. Great telescope and a great deal! 1 Feb 23

I bought this telescope (my first Newt and EQ mount) about a month ago and enjoy every minute I get to use it. Pretty easy set-up and disassembly (for when you need to move it inside/outside). Really great aperture for the price. A few things I've noticed so far:Tripod: not the best quality but gets the job done...definitely paying for the scope and mount, not tripod. Use with the legs either fully extended or not extended at all. Shelf is handy to have.Mount: equatorial mount is a VAST improvement over an alt-azt mount. It looks a bit daunting at first, but once you get everything balanced and aligned (YouTube to the rescue!), tracking objects in the sky is a breeze. Well-built, all-metal construction.Telescope: clear, crisp optics and came well collimated. Very easy to focus. Remember to let the scope sit outside for a few minutes before viewing so the mirrors can adjust to the temp. I was pleasantly surprised by the StarPointer Finderscope. Some older reviews complain about it, but I'm quiet sure it has been updated...I've had no issues and it makes objects much easier to find with the main scope.Eyepieces (never used the filters): I used these once and immediately ordered upgrades. Again, you're paying for the scope and mount, not the eyepieces. The provided Kellners (NOT Plossls) are ok to start with, but have a tiny field of view and virtually no eye relief. Do yourself a favor and order a couple higher-quality eyepieces and a barlow...the scope deserves it! Great for the price 20 Jan 23

I was looking at telescopes for my 8 year old granddaughter for Christmas. I looked at several kids telescopes and they were more like toys than something to look seriously at the heavens. This telescope is a little over her head right now but she will grow into it. The quality of this instrument is evident just looking at how well it?s built it looks a lot more expensive than the 200 bucks I paid for it .
